William Thomas

Bill Thomas is a 1988 graduate of the University of Georgia where he earned his undergraduate degree in Political Science. After completing his undergraduate degree he attended the Pepperdine University School of Law, where he was selected as a member of its Moot Court Board. He earned his J.D. degree from Pepperdine in 1992. He began his career as a prosecutor in the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office where he prosecuted a variety of misdemeanor and felony crimes and conducted over 35 jury trials.

In 1998 he joined the U.S. Attorney's Office in Atlanta as an Assistant United States Attorney. As an Assistant United States Attorney he conducted complex grand jury investigations and tried numerous cases to verdict. In 2003, he was promoted to the Deputy Chief of the Narcotics and Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Task Force ("OCDETF") Section of the U.S. Attorney's Office and in 2005 he was promoted to the Chief of the Narcotics and OCDETF section where he served until leaving to establish the W.H. Thomas Firm. As the Chief of the Narcotics and OCDETF section, Bill oversaw a team of prosecutors and financial analysts that conducted complex criminal and financial investigations throughout the United States and abroad. Additionally, Bill oversaw one of the most extensive electronic surveillance ("wiretap") programs in the United States. Bill was responsible for overseeing the arrests, prosecutions, and in some cases, the extraditions of individuals nationally and abroad. These investigations resulted in the seizure and forfeiture of well-over 50 million dollars in assets and United States currency.

His notable prosecutions include, the public corruption investigation and prosecution of a sitting Georgia state legislator for money laundering and fraud, and Operation Enigma ---- a multi-year investigation and prosecution of a major Mexican Cartel operating in Atlanta that resulted in the indictment and arrest of numerous defendants throughout the United States. For his efforts in Operation Enigma, Bill was the co-recipient of Regional and National OCDETF awards for case of the year.

As a former federal prosecutor, has been called on as a media consultant for news outlets in the Atlanta area in the areas of public corruption, police misconduct and fraud. Bill is a past chairman of the Atlanta Bar Association's Criminal Bar Section, and currently serves on its board of directors. Additional he currently serves on the executive board of the University of Georgia Alumni Association's board of directors.
